Gaelgia – a new hope
Some you have asked where I am going with Gaelgia and I have not answered because I did not figure it out until last week.
These past few months I have realized I have built a world that a story can fit into. I have a kingdom, neighbors, secondary characters, a system of magic, and other necessities like tone, theme, and voice.
I have talked with some of the participants in the world, though not the doppelgänger, and have come to the conclusion that they would prefer to be background characters (if listed at all).
I have taken all this information and combined it with a fifteen year old memory of Piers Anthony’s Xanth — remember this was my inspiration — and decided to tell the story of Galen and Xander.
I will pick them up in the tween ages and take their relationship and personal issues as part of a larger story starting with the next post. This is the story I will update on each Tuesday. I will also reconfigure the site to make reading the posts in order easier and reading background information easy as well.
Lastly, all my posts from here on out are going to be coordinated into the Gaelgia theme. Yes, you heard correctly, I promise consistency.
Post lastly, since a few have asked, yes, the Mademoiselle of Mountain Park is back in the world and will play a role with the king.
Crayons and Visios for Ghouls
The time of year when the good people of Teesus fear to tread. Even the bad people of Teesus fear to tread. The inviting of the ghouls to feast upon flesh and souls. SSAE16, PCI, SOX, it does not matter, these ghouls feast upon anyone seeking to do good work and keep customers satisfied or pretending to do good work.
Initially, it was the ghouls that brought Angus to the attention of Teesus.
“Lo, I have walked among the ghouls and come out unscathed,” said Angus.
“That is impossible,” said Jonsea. “They feast upon us and then cover our flesh with dead corpses of DR, unproductive meetings, and mounds of corpses.”
“I have found the ability to devour the the dead corpses,” said Angus.
In truth he had, but Teesus had found another method of dealing with the ghouls. The offered sacrifices to them each year and only heeded the words of Angus in minimal ways. The soon learned that the ghouls would keep asking for more and more sacrifice.
Jonsea saw the problem. He appointed Angus to the ghouls of DR. Those ghouls were devoured and then Jonsea and Angus attacked other corpses of meetings and papers until they could see above the dead the ghouls had strewn throughout Teesus.
“They return next month,” said Jonsea.
“There is another way,” said Angus. “We can distract them with colored pictures.”
“How could that work?” asked Jonsea. “They ask for mounds of written documents, how could colored drawings work upon them?”
“Ghouls have spent so long removing the ability of people to work, that they have become soulless. This lack of soul has eaten away at their brains. They ask for paperwork because they do not understand any of it. But their feeble minds recognize drawings. Colors in the drawings make it friendly.”
Jonsea was skeptical, but let Angus go through with the plan.
He created colored drawings. He made friendly blues to distract the eyes and put angry reds where he wanted the ghouls to focus.
The ghouls came and went. They focused on the drawings and asked for changes to the drawings, mostly more colors. No souls were taken and no corpses left behind.
Teesus rejoiced.
